In South Africa it is summer while Europe has winter. Most in demand are Cape Town with the Atlantic on its doorstep, the winelands around Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, the Garden Route with Knysna and Plettenberg Bay, and the warm KwaZulu-Natal coast on the Indian Ocean.
Foreign nationals can acquire property on the same terms as residents. The transfer is handled by a conveyancer, a specially admitted attorney, who registers the sale at the state Deeds Office; this usually takes two to three months. Buyers who are not resident in South Africa can generally borrow no more than half of the purchase price from local banks.
