Lake Geneva, Lake Maggiore and Lake Lugano in Ticino, plus the mountain resorts of the Valais and the Engadine: Switzerland is expensive, but it delivers — and it is a few hours from southern Germany.

The decisive point is called Lex Koller. Foreign nationals not resident in Switzerland may buy only in designated tourist locations, only a holiday home, and only up to a limited floor area. Each such home requires cantonal authorisation, and the number of authorisations is capped annually.

That sounds restrictive, but it suits us precisely: what the law permits is the holiday home — and that is all we show here. Buyers should have the authorisation confirmed in writing before notarisation.
